About Alexandra Plesner

Director at Independent

As the co-founder and Creative Director of Psilocybin San Francisco, a non-profit organisation dedicated to providing valuable information about psilocybin use and harm reduction, I am committed to fostering responsible and informed practices in this field.

As a designer, I have a strong focus on systems thinking, taking into account context. I am driven by a passion for creating more equitable, conscious, and regenerative futures.

I have had the privilege of holding leadership positions at renowned creative agencies, including Normally Ltd, Method Inc, Dazed & Confused Magazine, Tank Magazine, and Karla Otto PR–assisting clients including The Victoria & Albert Museum, Spotify, Nike, Barclays, Puma, and Mercedes-Benz in translating their needs into products, experience and brand solutions.

My work has been published in publications, including Wallpaper*, Fast Company, Wired, iD Magazine, Design Week, YCN, and TimeOut London.

My academic background includes a Master of Arts in Design Studies from Central Saint Martins and a Master of Science in Applied Psychology from London Metropolitan University. My dissertation focused on exploring the synergies between VR, AR, and MR with psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.

I write a newsletter on Psychedelics Design, an experimental media and community platform. I am also a contributing writer for publications such as Psychedelic Spotlight, Women on Psychedelics, and Proto.Life.

What mentees say

“Alexandra was amazing, both in her offer of time and her openness. She understood my situation and with her experience, shared very straightforward and useful tips. It was relaxed and insightful. She helped me think about how I can reposition myself, and shared great advice on how to build customer relationships when starting a new business.”

Sonya SHI, Lead Researcher and Founder at Kontech Insights

“Alexandra is a renaissance woman, having lived and worked around the world and across different industries. A true pioneering spirit and innovative thinker, whilst down-to-earth and easy to speak with. Thanks for a great mentorship session Alexandra!”

Meg Rye, Founder, Recruiter + Coach at Good Maven

“You may be sitting in your room but in reality, you're no longer in a Zoom call with Alexandra. The inherent interpersonal disconnect that you've come to expect from a virtual call? Gone – along with any sense of subtle anxiety that comes with speaking to someone new online.”

Daiki Shinomiya, Business & Service Designer at Accenture
