About Allen Hu (胡嘉)

Senior Graphic Designer at Melio

Currently Senior Designer & Consultant at Allen Hu and Digital Designer at Digitalzone. Previously Senior Graphic Designer at Saatchi & Saatchi, Senior Brand Designer at Wunderkind and Digital Design Manager at The Museum of Modern Art. Studied Bachelor’s Degree Design and Visual Communications at Parsons School of Design - The New School.

I'm a senior graphic designer with 7+ years across brand, digital, and print — agencies, in-house teams, freelance, the whole mess. Saatchi & Saatchi, Michael Kors, MoMA, BNY Mellon. I've also been laid off, burnt out, and rebuilt more times than I want to count. That's the real reason I mentor, not the resume line.

Early on I was managing people my first year out of college, working 70-80 hour weeks through a holiday sprint, and when I finally asked for vacation, I got let go instead. I was a line item. It took a while to feel like making things again after that.

I care about craft, typography, book design. But I care just as much about what nobody teaches you: how to protect your energy, how to say no, how to survive corporate spaces without losing yourself, how to keep making things when the industry feels like it's falling apart.

I'm not handing you a formula. I'll ask good questions, tell you what I got wrong, and help you figure out what works for you — starting out, stuck somewhere toxic, or building a freelance practice that doesn't eat you alive.

I believe in staying true to yourself in a field that keeps asking you not to. If you want someone who'll listen and sit in the messy parts with you — I'm here.
