Senior Software Engineer - Team Lead at IBM, University of Southern California (USC)
Hi, I'm Arjun! I’ve spent the better part of the last decade building enterprise cloud services at IBM and growing from a full-stack software engineer into a leader leading the team.
Ownership brings a lot with it: performance, scalability, stability. It means living with architectural trade-offs, sitting through security reviews, revenue generation, time management and still making sure the system works. The best part, though, is watching something we built quietly support millions of users around the world.
What I’ve realized along the way is that the tech is only half the job. The other half is people: getting a team unstuck, helping someone step into a bigger role, or just sharing the shortcuts I wish I knew five years earlier.
I may not have all the answers, but I can share what’s worked, and what hasn’t for me in areas like:
Becoming a confident senior engineer
Turning abstract cloud concepts into something you can actually explain to your leadership team, PM or a customer
Building systems that don’t just look good on diagrams but actually survive real-world traffic spikes
Navigating career shifts: from IC to lead, or figuring out how to influence without a formal title
Having someone in your corner who’s been through the messy parts of scaling teams and services
If you’re curious, ambitious, or just need to talk for where you are right now, I’d be glad to connect.
