Lead UX designer at Freelance
Hi everyone! From studying Fine art and a brief stint as a front end developer I found my way into User experience design. I’ve worked on everything from the BBC Olympics to leading a team of user researchers at vision Australia. I’m a blend of geek with the DNA of an artist.
I’ve been working as a UX designer for the last 22 years and have been leading teams for the last decade.
I’m really passionate about all things design and research and find teaching and mentoring people the most for filling part of leadership. So much so that I spent a year teaching. I’ve also taught the inclusive design course at Vision Australia.
I believe that the mentor/mentor relationship should be as fun as possible. I try alway to give critique not criticism, I’m an excellent listener and most probably have encountered all the same issues that you have at some point. I’ll also will probably recommend so many books that you will probably never have the time to read them all.
I’m English but now live in Melbourne Australia with two cats and a giant dog called Steve.
I can help with portfolio and CV reviews guidance on UX techniques and methods communication and presentations stakeholder relationships
“Ben reframed how I think about specialisation, case study structure, and user research — all grounded in his own experience. Specific without being prescriptive. Easy to talk to without wasting your time.”
“Ben's altruism and mentorship speak volumes about his character and passion as a designer. With his immense wealth of experience and knowledge, he helped provide me much clarity and focus during what felt like such a short introductory call. We frankly couldn't fit it all in one session.”
“Ben was exceptionally informative and generous with his time. He helped me review my portfolio in depth and conducted a mock interview. His feedback was incredibly useful, and I felt that I learned so much from one session. His knowledge of UX/UI is extensive, and he shared valuable interview skills, tips, and practical insights into the industry. I’m deeply grateful for the experience.”
