Hello y'all 🙋🏻♀️
I'm a product design manager (after many career transitions) in Australia (by way of Singapore and the US).
A more in-depth about me: I got started in design by teaching myself Photoshop, HTML and CSS to showcase my favorite anime characters on Geocities and Livejournal. Dating myself, I know.
I wasn't ready to jump into a design career just yet though. I bounced around from International Relations to Psychology to Pre-Med to Film & Television to Visual Effects. I finally settled on Advertising at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
I worked on digital campaigns for the US market, but realized I wanted to build and own a product from start to finish. I began freelancing and studying on the side to build my portfolio for a product design role.
I got started at a product design agency in Seattle, working on MVPs for Microsoft, Julep and Socrata. After 2 years, I moved to a product design role at Rover.com. I owned the web booking experience, focusing on building the design system and trust and safety products. Wanting to learn more about artificial intelligence, I moved to the Allen Institute of Artificial Intelligence to work on Semantic Scholar. I focused on natural language processing, elastic search and user behaviors when searching.
Itching for a chance to work in other markets, I moved from the US to Singapore for an opportunity at Grab. I worked in both the transport and deliveries space, building products for 8 countries in Southeast Asia.
Now I lead the Search and Recommendations team at Canva. I love empowering the team in solving search across 100+ languages.
