I am an Arizona licensed attorney with my own virtual legal service and consulting business where I support companies and entrepreneurs as outside corporate counsel, employment and labor law advisor, HR/Compliance consultant and general business operations strategy. I am a born entrepreneur with many side hustles and passion projects. I’ve been fortunate to find incredible mentors early in my career journey that helped me develop my professional skills and brand so now I actively seek to pay it forward by serving as a mentor to other professionals. I’ve mentored over 30 professionals in the last 5 years and I’m proud to say that at least 25 have been women professionals and 6 of have been women of color. I’m passionate about women advocating for one another in the professional spaces where representation still lacks and where unconscious biases still hinder our experience and advancement opportunities. Although I am not a woman of color myself and I cannot fully understand the heightened challenges and barriers that only women of color face, I believe it is critical for any women empowerment effort to include an extra layer of effort to propping up our female colleagues of color specifically in order to help close the significant additional gaps that exist on top of those faced by all women. I believe the smallest actions can have huge impact for progress and as a mentor and a colleague, I make conscious effort to take advantage of opportunities for public praise or shoutouts, referring business and clients, submitting nominations for awards and community accolades, pushing for candidates in promotion and hiring processes, calling out microagressions, biases and insufficient DEI efforts and creating circles of trust and transparency for each other professionally because knowledge is power. When I am mentor I see myself as a sponsor and advocate for my mentee’s career journey. I know advice and guidance alone is insuffienct and mentorship comes alive when we champion people’s success and connect people to opportunities and resources they otherwise would not be able to access or find on their own. I love mentoring and my only criteria for mentees is that they be people who truly want mentorship and they agree to pay it forward by offering mentorship to others in the future.
