Tips on how to work and collaborate with designers.

Working with designers

Here’s what I’m up to at Klaviyo:
• Establishing and scaling content design as a craft within the product design function, including the recruitment of top talent
• Driving the creation, development, and implementation of conversational language and a unified product voice
• Defining best practices for content design and strategy across our many features
• Sitting with the design system team to create and document guidelines for content styles, patterns, and components— improving consistency and scalability
• Identifying improvements to processes alongside design ops and design leadership, increasing efficiency and decreasing time spent context-switching
• Mentoring and educating product designers, researchers, product managers, developers, technical writers, and copywriters on the value of content design
• Working closely with product and developers to turn jargon into conversational language without losing accuracy, clarity, and consistency
• Collaborating with specified UX design functions including motion design and behavioral design

A content designer is parallel to a product designer, but with a distinct set of skills. Skills like writing, storytelling, information architecture, and the ability to craft copy in a way that is clear, digestible and in tune with the needs of the user.

Some things I have fun doing:
• Write and design end-to-end guidance that makes it easy for users to get started with products and transact on-site
• Edit and write friendly, brilliantly clear UI copy for new product features
• Envision and drive experiments to test out new ideas, later to be iterated on after A/B testing or UX research
• Work closely with product management to conceptualize, ideate and produce dynamic, innovative copy and designs
• Collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholder teams to plan and produce content for major product releases
• Identify opportunities for improvement to existing content and problem solve pain points with current, live page experiences
