Erin Pellegrino the founder and principal of the studio Matter, as well as co-founder at Out of Architecture. She regularly teaches at Cornell University, NJIT, The New School and CUNY City Tech.
Erin believes design is a process of engaging with problems, opportunities, hopes and ideas. Through research and focus on methods of making in temporal and physical contexts, she works to produce inherently meaningful, generative and prospective designs β redefining the role and definition of craft in contemporary design. β
She has been recognized with an Autodesk BuildSpace Fellowship, first prize in the Rethinking The Future Design Awards, a AIA New England Design Honor Award, a Core77 Design Award in Built Environment, two Architizer A-plus awards, a Paul M. Heffernan International Fellowship, and a nomination for the EU Mies Van der Rohe Award. In 2018, NCARB named her an inaugural Scholar of Professional Practice, and she has a professional focus on the practice of architecture and design in the future. In 2016, Pellegrino realized a public mountaineering shelter in alpine Slovenia, a collaborative project recognized with the AIA New England Design Honor Award, the Core 77 Design Award in Built Environment, two Architizer A+ awards, a Paul M.
