Non-Fiction | Animation

I manage a large multi-disciplinary team of managers, leads, designers, motion graphics artists, video editors, and creative producers to create and test content and user experience, both on and off service. I've piloted new work-streams to be adopted locally (potentially, globally), innovated on asset types to test, tooling to enhance creative output and ease of working and used my previous background in user experience to enhance the user journey.

The Microsoft Office 365 Creative Studio is a fully functioning internal agency that sits within Brand and Marketing but is part of the Product Engineering team. As the Head of UI/UX, my responsibility was to lead the team in redesigning the entirety of the Microsoft.com Office website, existing as a dotted line from the Engineering and Web team into the Brand and Marketing arm. I managed a team of producers, designers, and production artists to move Office.com to the Microsoft Web Framework/Red Tiger in partnership with the product and accessibility teams.

Managed all digital aspects of the Worldwide Retail Channel Marketing Design Studio which included field guidance for best in class web experiences, web design, UI/UX for interactive displays and the overall customer journey including, but not limited to: playbooks, seasonal campaigns, social, online assets and ground-breaking in-store digital experiences for Xbox, Surface, Windows, and Office.

• Recruited design talent and successfully built a cross-functional team, growing studio from 6 to 20+ personnel in one year (designers, producers, coordinators, editors, production artists, animators, and studio leadership).
• Developed team workflow and framework to build design studios within region: LATAM (Mexico, Brazil), APAC (Singapore/Japan/Australia), EMEA (Paris/London).
• Helped negotiate and manage vendor & supplier relationships and contracts in order to scale business.
• Created digital experiences for Surface Studio that delighted Panos Panay (Creator of the Surface).
• Digital Table for Windows tested successfully in Best Buy: avg. sales up by 10%
• Developed playbooks and trained regional teams on branding, customer journey, story-telling, user experience best practices (by region), and accessibility online and in-store.
• Saved worldwide team more than $2 million in agency costs over the period of a year by implementing tooling, operations and scale mechanisms like managed services and agency partnerships.

The Creative Studio Team is a high visibility, in-house, cross-functional creative group that produces zulily's overall site/mobile themes and event experiences on product (web and mobile) from concept to final execution. I managed a team of 30+ internal creatives who collaborated and produced designs with in-house imagery, graphic treatments, social components and site take-overs with overall demand at 500k or higher.

I identified workflow and capacity needs for editorial content as the Marketing Director would consistently use my team resources to execute campaigns, thereby hurting our capacity. Using data and capacity forecasting I was able to show her the impact to the business and the solution- to build a fully operational internal agency that would support her needs with under a million dollars. Using my pitch, she took it to the VP and CEO to ask for budget and resources. It was quickly approved and the Marketing Director asked me to lead the new group.

• Managed creative teams up to 28 people consisting of product and editorial photo editors, producers, project coordinators and creative leads
• Maintained cost metrics and implemented process for cost savings and efficiency gains
• Balanced workload across two office locations and created guidelines to ensure resources were allocated appropriately to business needs. Total production increased by 10%
-Managed employee retention including career development and attrition forecasting while maintaining highest studio team engagement score of +15% above average in Seattle office
• Coached and developed creative team members and promoted over 40 individual contributors to next professional level
• Worked collaboratively with other departments to meet / exceed quality and production goals
• Managed team capacity, staffing and overall growth
• Conducted regular staff and one-on-one meetings with direct reports to motivate and develop team members and to align employees with business objectives
-Successfully designed and implemented a flexible work model for photo editors to support no business impact during inclement weather, holidays and building expansion/construction.
• Implemented 3rd party global Photo Editing/Copy model resulting in a cost savings of 50% per image/style.

I created a local tech start-up with a close engineering friend, focusing on inclusion and diversity and safe spaces- “We celebrate who you are and where you want to be.”

Working with local companies and small business who are LGBTQ and diversity friendly, we build applications to connect businesses to people and people to businesses.

Our first app, called Q-List, focused on LGBTQ-friendly businesses and locations who are open and supportive of a diverse clientele. Individuals could use our service to identify businesses on their maps that welcome and support LGBTQ business.

-App creation and development
-UI/UX design
-Prototyping and user testing
-Marketing, advertising and PR consulting

Managed a team of Community Content Editors (photographers, designers, illustrators, photo editors) and reported directly to the VP of Veer. Ensured the team performed at its optimum level as they edited photography, illustrations, and multimedia from outside contributors as well as met established KPIs for production and length of time of media in editing queue.

As the foremost museum in the Seattle area, our gallery was one of the only allowed to showcase artists who were signed on in exclusive agreements with other galleries. As a non-profit entity, we focused on new talent mixed with local masters to celebrate and elevate a diverse group of artists.

• Worked with gallery manager to efficiently manage daily gallery operations
• Supervised and supported over 20 volunteers and interns
• Entered daily transactions and receivables, maintained inventory, invoiced clients
• Coordinated records with SAM finance department
• Maintained and used accounting software system
• Prepared reports and statistical analysis
• Assisted clients in choosing art

Reason for leaving: Laid off due to budgetary cuts

As a start-up operation the position required an individual to wear many hats- I also worked the production line, helped discover and implement process and production workflow improvements as well as new routing systems to make the delivery process faster and more cost efficient. Due to my background in Marketing and Design, I also advised on their marketing campaigns, website and user interface.

Creative Consulting company grounded in supporting local start-ups, projects and businesses owned by diverse community members.

Specialize in: Web Design, User Experience, Visual Design, Digital, Mobile applications, Marketing, Set/Space Design, Motion Graphics, Retail Experience, Film, Entertainment, Production design.
