Came to Google to build a UX team working on infrastructure for Google. Since then I've moved to manage internal reliability tools UX and most recently reliability tools for Cloud.

Heading up design in the Developer Division. Responsible for a user's experience of all Visual Studio products.

Working for the Developer Division as a Principal visual designer on Visual Studio, Visual Studio Team Services and Visual Studio Code.

I was ‘borrowed’ from the SDK team to work on an interface for a snap store. Working with a small team and leveraging many existing patterns from both platform and cloud products we managed to design a v1.0 in a short space of time.

Our engineer was based in Bangkok for most of the build so communication on issues, bugs and sharing of designs and specs was entirely done through Github. We were able to gather feedback from the wider Canonical group, share the work with key stakeholders and then deliver it to the engineers to be built.

I’m still involved in the Snapweb project attending sprints with the team and assisting with designs and delivery where needed.

I joined Canonical full-time as a lead designer working on the Software Developer Toolkit for the Platform and Apps team.

The SDK is the building blocks of the interface. I work very closely with a team of UX designers to deliver components for the toolkit that support all form factors (pointer, touch and keyboard) and layouts that respond and adapt to different screen / window sizes.

I communicate daily with the engineers who are distributed around Europe to make sure that both design and engineers are working to the same goal.

I’ve also been managing junior designers on the team, helping with time and project management and making sure they’re able to progress their work and achieve their potential.

Maas is an automation tool for physical servers and is part of the suite of cloud products made by Canonical.

I worked with the Maas product team to bring a fresh new look and feel to the interface. Over the course of 6 months we reconfigured the look of Maas completely as well as building a hugely more efficient experience for it’s users.

I was asked to lead the design for web on the release of Ubuntu’s first physical device the BQ Aquarius E4.5. 

This meant a complete overhaul of the /phone section on ubuntu.com. I worked closely with the Head of Design, Head of UX and VP of Marketing to ensure that the experience, look and feel and message were all tied together seamlessly. 

To sell the device, we decided to have Ubuntu’s first lifestyle photoshoot which I planned, organised and art-directed. The images were so successful that I was asked to be involved in a similar shoot for the desktop team.

Juju is an application and service modelling tool. It’s one of Canonical’s flagship products in the cloud space.

For a year I worked closely with UX on the evolution of the GUI and new features for this product. We worked fast, in two-week release cycles with the development teams, to iterate and release new parts to the GUI and get it in front of users quickly.

CitizenMe is a organisation that is empowering users to take control of their data. It’s first digital product is an app for iOS and Android that gives users control of their data and personal insights based on this.

I joined right at the start of their journey working towards the launch of v1.0 app to the App Store. I created the brand then worked on the UI for the app. I was the lead UI and UX designer. I worked on user flows and interactions as well as crafting the UI. 

The whole team was distributed so I worked with developers in Spain, South America and then South Africa as well as working with the stakeholders in London and Dublin

The Bureau London is a digital agency I setup with a developer and content specialist friend whilst I was contracting in London. We all had experience and a desire to work in the arts, education and non-profit sectors and felt we could service the needs of these clients with a small and agile team. I lead the design for all the projects in addition to taking on client acquisition and management roles.

Clients included: Catch22, UCL Experimental Psychology dept, Penal Reform International, Mind, Forster Communications.

Canonical is a large software company with offices across the world. They make the popular open-source Linux operating system called Ubuntu.

I was contracted as a Senior visual designer on the web team. Working with the lead web designer, based in Belfast, I worked on all aspects of the site from small banner advertising, through campaign micro-sites to a complete overhaul of the tablet section for ubuntu.com.

I worked for just over three years as a contract designer for clients in London and abroad. Working on everything from brand creation to exhibition displays. 

I worked with: Abundance, Canonical (Ubuntu), Conran Design Group, Duffy & DZ Group, Forster Communications, Girls not Brides, Jean Lambert MEP, Karen Henriksen Milliner, MerchantCantos, Radical Ireland, The Elders, The Mile End Group, The Natural History Museum, amongst others.

Conran Design Group produce award winning brand and stakeholder communications. They have worked with a large majority of the FTSE 100 companies in the UK.

I was hired to bolster their small but growing digital team and help to deliver their stakeholder communications in a digital format. I relished the challenge of delivering projects under extremely tight deadlines.

I worked with and managed a diverse team of junior designers, freelancers and developers to ensure a high quality of design and delivery on deadline.

Clients included: Visa, Kingfisher, Burberry, Balfour Beatty, National Grid. I also had the task of reimagining the agency’s own website as a completely responsive site.

Provokateur is a campaign-focused communications agency, mainly working for the third sector, charities, NGOs, ethical and environmental organisations.

I was fortunate to work on some large and complex sites which gave me a real taste for user centred design. I also gained great experience working with a more international client base and with remote digital teams. 

Clients included: Oxfam, Greenpeace, The Elders, Kofi Annan Foundation, Marie Stopes International, The international Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), 38 Degrees, Reprieve, Liberty, Women for Women, Macmillan Cancer Support.

Root is a small design agency specialising in the entertainment sector. Their work crosses between moving image, music, book covers and advertising campaigns.

Working between the directors, junior designers and freelancers, I managed projects from briefings to delivery, in a very fast paced highly creative environment. Root hadn’t worked in the digital sector before I arrived. I brought my knowledge and contacts to develop this service for their clients.

Clients included: Disney, Philips, Sony, Penguin, Atlantic Healthcare.

Branding consultancy Third Eye Design worked with a broad spectrum of industries from independent fashion labels to multinationals businesses.

As a junior designer I was responsible for projects from client briefings through to managing the print. During my time there the studio grew from 4 designers to a team of 15 in Glasgow and with satellite offices in London and New York office. 

Some notable clients included: Royal Bank of Scotland, Art & Business, Mercy Corp International, RMJM Architects, Noah city developments, Ayr Racecourse, Mactaggart & Mickel, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, The New York Festivals.
