About Jannis Hegenwald
Design Manager at Atlassian
Hi there,
My name is Jannis, and I'm a design manager at Atlassian, where I support a team of designers on our Confluence product. After working as an IC researcher and product designer for a while, I love how my current role allows me to spend much more time and energy on people.
Outside of work, I like to be outdoors, spend time with friends and family, and take weekend trips around the U.S. I've also gotten back into reading over the last year and am always happy to work on projects around the house.

What mentees say
“Jannis is a great listener first and foremost. It's sometimes tricky to synthesize all of your thoughts as a beginner looking for advice, but you can tell Jannis has a good understanding of the value of identifying a problem. I could also tell he has a very high-level view and understanding of how to think about design problems. Both of these elements were really beneficial for me during our meet.”
“Jannis is approachable, compassionate, and a great listener. I went into the session with abstract questions, which he very helpfully answered by providing actionable feedback. He is a great mentor. Thank you and I appreciate your time and input! For anyone seeking feedback or career advice, I would highly recommend booking a session with him.”
“Jannis is an amazing mentor! He listened to my questions attentively. He was very empathetic about my situation. Then he offered me actionable suggestions and tips, which were super helpful. I appreciated his thoughtful advice and his genuine care for helping other designers!”
