About John Soh

Design Strategist at Capital One Financial

Hello I'm John and I started my career as an architect and transitioned to industrial design and eventually to digital design. Through these transitions, I've gained experience in understanding the problem and navigating restrictions and complexities to deliver results. Now I use these skills to thrive in a swirly problem space while mentoring other designers and aspiring designers to navigate the ever evolving design industry. I can help with job search strategy and tactics, resume reviews, solving the problem and selling it, and general design related questions.

Sessions with John Soh

  • Mentorship Session (30 min): Mentorship session

What mentees say

“John is a genuinely thoughtful mentor. As a fellow MIIPS grad now in design strategy at Capital One, he gave me a clear, grounded read on how these roles are actually hired for in financial services, and tailored his advice to my specific situation rather than offering generic tips. I left with concrete next steps and a much sharper sense of direction. I highly recommend him!”

Kyle Perrapato, Design | Product Strategist at Carnegie Mellon University

“John was great at understanding my journey and meeting me where I am right now. I was able to learn a lot from his experience and trajectory, and his insights were deeply valuable.”

Clara Brandão, UX Research Intern at Parsons School of Design

“My session with John was immensely beneficial. Not only is he incredibly intelligent and articulate, but he is able to communicate his ideas in a clear way. He was very generous with his time to answer my questions on design strategy and how to break into this field. He has tremendous knowledge and experience in various areas of design.”

Irene Inouye, UX Designer | Design Strategist at Freelance/Consultant
