A leap from teaching aviation to strategic design is not an obvious or an easy one to make. However Designit is a company that could see pass my CV and focus on my passion not only for aviation but for creating meaningful experiences for people. I have been a designer, long before I even realised it. 

I joined the newly established London studio of 6 young and talented digital designers. Even though Designit is one of the largest strategic design firms in the world, at that time London was very much a start-up, with passionate people doing far beyond what their job description would say. 

On my third day in the company, I was asked to lead a 6-figure project budget that was recently sold and was told that I have to be in India in 5 days to facilitate an ideation workshop with the client. During this project, I lead a team of 10 amazing designers from 4 offices on 2 continents, delivering the project and helping the client realise the potential of design thinking. 

Few days after that project, I was asked by the MD to go in and explore what value business design and human-centred approaches can bring to one of the largest oil companies in the world. Fast-forward 10 months and with help of amazing people, I managed to grow the relationship to more than 10 projects, spanning several departments and business functions. 

After stepping away from leading the account, I have been involved in solving vast array of business problems ranging from leveraging AI to treat infertility to helping utility providers to scale renewable energy using latest technologies.

After having done more than a 1000 flights in less than 3 years, I had to take a break from constant jetlag and airplane food and since I had so much first-hand experience in the aviation world, I wanted to share it with others and inspire students to pursue a career in aviation. 

I’ll never forget my first day at work. Due to some lecturers being ill, I was asked to deliver two 3-hour lectures to 100 students each on the topic of aviation marketing. As soon as I was done, I was exhausted but happy, because at the end of the session one of the students said that I managed to make marketing interesting and fun. 

Throughout my time at Bucks New University, I taught a variety of modules, ranging from Air Cargo to Airport Operations. What I tried to do in every single class was to inspire my students to never lose their curiosity and to keep on searching for their passion. 

I really enjoy teaching, and I still often get invited to give guest lectures and sessions on aviation customer experience, I knew that after 3 very rewarding semesters I was ready for the next challenge.

I have always loved aviation. Ever since I was a child, I was mesmerised by the sheer fact that in just few hours you can be transported to a completely different part of the world. I was fascinated by how the plane flies and especially how do airlines make money. 

Therefore, I decided to reach out to the CEO of Skytrax and share with him my passion for aviation. After we met for a coffee in Beijing, he offered me a job as a Passenger Experience consultant.  It was an amazing introduction to the world of commercial aviation, I have done more than a 1000 flights on more than 60 different airlines and visited places that otherwise would not have even dreamt about. 

Helping CEOs of largest airlines in the world understand the importance of customer experience, assisting them in clarifying their priorities and co-designing strategies with them was one of the most rewarding experiences for me.

I strongly believe that my career goals were set while working for Skytrax. Since then I knew that I wanted to help companies to be closer to their customers. I’ve learnt that good customer experience does not stem from rigid rules, but rather it has to be championed by every single employee, because only then customers will experience honest care.
