I am a Senior Engineering Manager at Royal Caribbean Group, where I lead about 50 engineers across multiple products. I still write code and review designs every week, so I can help hands-on: Java and Kotlin with Spring Boot, TypeScript with React and Next.js, Kubernetes, AWS, and observability tooling. I mentor two kinds of people: engineers who want to level up their code, designs, and careers, and new or aspiring managers figuring out the move into leadership. I have done the engineer job and the manager job, and I remember what the move between them actually felt like. I also use AI-assisted engineering daily in a large enterprise and coach engineers and teams on workflows that actually stick.
