- Was the first employee after the CEO and CTO, picked to lead efforts in research and development of computer vision systems
- Trained and deployed to production an image recognition model for up to 200 categories using deep convolutional neural networks
- Trained and deployed to production an object detection system for more than 1000 categories using Faster RCNN (Region-based Convolutional Neural Networks)
- Attracted top talent in Machine Learning and eventually helped hire 3 researchers
- Built an image annotation team from the ground-up and ensured the generation of high quality training data for input to the computer vision systems

Research and development of deep neural networks for image recognition and object detection

Conducted tutorials and marked tests/assignments for an undergraduate course on Introduction to Databases and a graduate course on Computational Linguistics.

Research and development of unsupervised/semi-supervised algorithms for categorizing posts in Web discussion forums, i.e., identify posts that contain questions, answers, feedback, etc.

Worked on the development of a social networking application for universities (implemented using Java and AngularJS).

1. Automatic classification of edits in Wikipedia into one of several categories like spelling/grammar correction, paraphrase, vandalism, information insertion/deletion/modification, etc.
(Implemented on the DKPro Text Classification framework)

2. Automatic classification of argument components (premise, claim, major claim, non-argumentative) in student essays.

- Research and development of modules for an Indian language search engine (sponsored by the Govt of India) called Sandhan (www.tdil-dc.in/sandhan).
- Automatic seed URL selection using Twitter
- Web page genre identification directly from URL

Worked on research and development of novel approach to storage workload characterization using time series segmentation, Markov modeling and clustering techniques.

Worked on establishing organizational practices and processes for:-

2) Quantification of project output
3) Strong organizational culture

Worked on a research project to automatically summarize documents independent of language using statistical NLP techniques. See publications for more details.
