About Kristian Bjornard

Chair of Graphic Design and Product Design at The Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA)

Hi, I'm Kristian and I have over 20 years of experience as a designer and educator. Throughout my career, I have worked on diverse projects ranging from branding and identity systems to websites and open source initiatives. I specialize in sustainable design practices and systems thinking, collaborating with small to medium-sized teams to create impactful solutions. I regularly develop innovative open source tools and frameworks while leading sustainability-focused design projects that challenge conventional approaches. As a college professor, I'm currently focused on developing new design curriculum for the 21st century that integrates sustainability, systems thinking, and emerging technologies.
