Working with product and engineering

Tips on how to work and collaborate with engineers and developers.

Working with engineers

• Guided the team in implementing software engineering best practices, including agile methodologies, security standards, code styles, and the selection of optimal development tools.

• Addressed and resolved significant technical debts in core projects, such as identity and payment services, reducing maintenance costs by at least 50% and greatly enhancing project maintainability.

• Played an active role in the recruitment process, assisting in the selection and onboarding of new developers, thereby further strengthening our team's capabilities.

• Implemented BDD tests in projects, achieving 80% code coverage with Gherkin feature files. This effort fostered a cohesive understanding and collaboration between the coding and QA teams, significantly improving the quality of our software deliverables.

• Undertook the refactoring and enhancement of the maintainability of existing projects. This strategic initiative significantly reduced the maintenance costs of these projects, improving overall system efficiency and reliability.

• Developed comprehensive real-time monitoring, alerting, logging, metrics, and end-to-end tracing for Kubernetes and AWS services (Lambda Functions, API Gateway, EKS) using Datadog. This initiative enabled real-time visibility into our infrastructure's health and ensured a consistent 99% uptime.

• Implemented Datadog Real User Monitoring (RUM), significantly improving application performance and reducing page load times. This led to a 20% increase in customer satisfaction and a 15% boost in retention. Insights from RUM also enhanced conversion rates by 25% and provided valuable data to our Product Designer for critical UX improvements.

• Designed and led a team of 8 people to rewrite the Hotel product with more than 600 orders per day from a legacy Node.js codebase to .NET and Golang microservices using Actor model (Proto.Actor).

• Performed architecture and performance reviews on more than 10 .NET services, designed a technical debt roadmap for each project, and solved the debts resulting in 3x better website performance.

• Automated deployment and wrote K8S deployment manifests in the CI/CD (DevOps) process to test and run the developed applications with near to zero downtime and increased development speed by 2X.

• Directed a 7-member cross-functional (product, engineering) team toward the successful launch of an online doctor's appointments, consultations, and prescriptions platform.

• Enforced Kanban principles in the team which reduced cycle time by 25% and increased the team's throughput in less than 8 weeks.

• Led a team of 5 engineers to develop the Accommodation product, which now has more than 500 orders per day.

• Mentored 6 vertical teams to solve performance issues in .NET services and increased performance by up to 5x.

• Developed the website's API Gateway using GraphQL in C#, which supported any downstream protocol, such as gRPC, REST, EF-Core which handles 2000 requests per second.

• Implemented monitoring and tracing of 5 microservices in Kubernetes using Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and Open Telemetry, which causes a 99.9% service up-time.

• Refactored more than 10 shared services, like the Order and Payment service, and created an abstract architecture for all products to ease adding new features and products.

• Written integration tests over 30 legacy microservices critical paths resulted in having a safe refactoring process and increasing code coverage by up to 35%.

• Set up logging, tracing, monitoring, and alerting solutions for the projects using Elasticsearch, Kibana, Open-Telemetry, and Zipkin, resulting in nearly 99.9% service up-time.

• Decreased response time from an average of 30 seconds to 80 milliseconds by adding hybrid Redis caching.

• Enhanced conversion rate by 3% by making user journey bug free.

• Developed ASP.NET Core back-ends for 3 enterprise multi-tenant e-commerce solutions and deployed on Microsoft Azure cloud platform that serve 400 requests per second and used by more than 200 stores in 10 countries.

• Developed cross-platform, high-performance e-commerce mobile applications for iOS, Android, and UWP using Xamarin Forms, MVVM, and Prism used by more than 200 stores in 10 countries.

• Developed back-end for applications using ASP.NET Core, and CQRS. One of these applications, Farmoon, is downloaded more than 200,000 times from Cafe-Bazaar's Android store, and the back-end is handling this traffic perfectly.
