Hi, I'm Nikolai, a Senior Software Engineer at Zalando with over 20 years of experience in e-commerce, banking and telecommunications. My specialty is Java and backend systems.

Before Zalando, I spent eight years in team-lead and architectural-manager roles at MegaFon, where I led engineering and project coordination for billing software and advised teams on architecture. Today I own systems end to end, from design to running them in production for customers across Europe.

I've mentored engineers since 2007. At Zalando I work closely with five engineers. Earlier, I helped a test engineer pass an internal Java interview and take on development work, and I supported students through their thesis projects. I've also run 50+ technical interviews and reviewed around 100 CVs, so I know what interviewers look for.

In our sessions, we start from your goals and your situation. Rather than handing you one answer, I'll lay out a few options and their trade-offs, so you can make the call yourself. I mentor to give back what I've learned, and to keep learning myself.
