As a VP of Engineering, I bring extensive experience in leading and scaling up innovative SaaS multi-products. I oversee a team of 110 engineers, including 7 Engineering Managers managing our cross-functional teams, as well as 3 Principal Engineers guiding our technical strategy,. Our team is continuously growing to accommodate the development of new products and squads. In addition to managing software developers, and security & site reliability engineers, I have recently taken on the responsibility of testing engineering. As part of our expansion, I am currently setting up MLOps to support the integration of machine learning models into our new product offerings. With a focus on driving innovation and ensuring seamless execution, I thrive in fast-paced environments and am dedicated to help my engineers deliver high-quality software solutions.

I build the technology roadmap of our SaaS platform in conjunction with Principal Engineers and Lead Engineers. Along with the Principal Engineers, I hold the vision for our engineering team and communicate the technical vision across the organization. Also responsible for tracking and providing visibility to internal stakeholders into team’s progress and impact on the timeline of delivery during cycles. I also manage metrics to drive decision making.

As our engineering team was growing, we decided to scale our engineering management & leadership team. I therefore moved towards a role of VP of Engineering and set up an engineering leadership team with Engineering Managers and Principal Engineers.

At CluePoints, we are revolutionising the way that clinical trials are managed, and new drugs are brought to market. We are developing a unique Risk-Based Quality Management (RBQM) software for clinical trials.

I bring my experience in software engineering and leadership to foster the software & site reliability engineering teams ability to deliver and scale the CluePoints' disruptive and innovative SaaS.

Current key projects: engineering practices for quality software, scalable data storage (new tech stacks), platform reliability (SLO/SLI and risk assessment), MLOps setup

Team: 4 Engineering managers, 3 Principal Engineers, 10 Squads, 60 Engineers, 3 locations: Belgium, Poland and Ukraine

Key achievements: 95% retention, doubling the engineering team in 1 year while maintaining the productivity rate, dedicated squad leading technical help-to-scale projects, technical roadmap focusing on making our platform future-proofed  and making our squads autonomous, engineering performance indicators, training of secure programing for developers, security incidence response management

As Head of Engineering, I oversaw end-to-end engineering activities, including design and development of complex critical information systems as products, projects, or services (Hardware, Software, Cybersecurity, Cryptography, Radio). I managed a cross-functional team of 100 engineers to ensure adequate operational management and engineering competitiveness. I handled external resource and partnerships while building strategic relationships to secure potential opportunities.

As Director Sirris Brussels, I represented Sirris towards regional stakeholders in Brussels (Government, Funding agency, Administration, Federation, Clusters, Research centers, Universities, etc.) and towards companies. My ultime mission was to animate the digital innovative ecosystem of Brussels:

I was an invited Expert in the Spatial Data on the Web Working Group of the W3C (WWW consortium) in collaboration with the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The mission of the Spatial Data on the Web Working Group was to clarify and formalize the relevant standards landscape. I mainly introduced use cases coming from an ongoing international R&D project that I steered.

I was the representative of Sirris at W3C. The W3C mission is to lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing protocols and guidelines that ensure the long-term growth of the Web.

As Head of Software Engineering, I led all activities associated with cybersecured software engineering, Cloud/SaaS and Agile & DevOps. I ensured adequate program/project management of different business projects for the design and implementation of technological roadmaps of software products while completing the migration to cloud, architecture, and technology stacks. I monitored and handled a team of highly-skilled people within a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment with a focus on helping software companies innovate. I coordinated and completed multi-party (inter) national R&D projects in the domain of Cloud & SaaS.

I led the introduction of a new research centre (PReCISE Research Centre), as a result of the merging of scattered research entities.  I coordinated end-to-end operations of the research centre and led its scientific positioning in the area of engineering and management of advanced information systems.

As a Professor (academic tenure, first full time, now part time), I have directed and supported basic and applied research in Web (service) and data engineering. As a researcher, I'm the co-author of 80+ scientific publications (https://dblp.org/pid/t/PhilippeThiran.html). As a teacher, I created the first lecture on Web Engineering at UNamur and I'm now the holder of a new lecture on design and development of innovative software products (i.e., digital product management).
