About Rael Futerman

Chief Learning Officer at Cartedo

I am interested in how design can create positive, impactful change in the world. I was a design educator for about 15 years, teaching Industrial Design, Interaction Design, Business Design and Design Thinking at various universities around the world. The last academic post I had was founding programme manager at the University of Cape Town, d-school. While teaching, I received my Doctorate in Design, which focussed on integrating Participatory Design into government programmes aimed at improving service delivery to disadvantaged communities. A couple of years ago I co-founded Cartedo, an experiential learning organisation aimed at scaling future-readiness skills development. We combine design thinking, teaching & learning pedagogies and data science - so currently focussed on designing engaging learning journeys.

“After speaking with Rael, I must say that his deep knowledge of learning science and the mental frameworks around learning design (which can be applied to any form of design) was something I really needed to hear. He provided me a wealth of resources that helped me recognize the skillsets I currently have and why it's important to keep learning and remain inquisitive.”
