Runkel & Jenny is a human-centered, data-driven company that closely orchestrates Human-Centered Design with Data Science to create digital experiences for the world's most prominent brands and startups.

The primary client within this timeframe was Caterpillar's Global Mining Division, which entailed designing the next generation of software to remotely control and monitor manned and autonomous large scale mining equipment, along with operationalizing mines globally. Formed teams across Peoria, Illionois, Brisbane, Australia, and Montreal, Canada.

I was recruited by Best Buy to play a key role in their turnaround strategy, and led a Digital Design Digital Experience Center of Excellence made up of UX Strategy, User Research, Information Architecture, Visual Design, Content Strategy, and Program Management. During my tenure here, I inherited a team of 30, scaled it to 58, reorganized functions within the company, collaborated across all levels of the organization, and established user-centered and lean UX processes. 

Demand for our services grew 300% in the first 6 months, and we became a key contributor to an NPS increase of 300 basis points with an e-commerce growth rate of 6%. While here, I also managed agency partnerships with a variety of digital strategy and design firms, working to build innovation workstreams that made forward-thinking, “mobile-first” prototyping possible.

At Whirlpool, I worked as a UX Consultant for the company’s Digital Center of Excellence (partnering with brand, analytics and technical teams, and engaging in strategy, design and development for projects). I served as an e-business and UX consultant for Whirlpool and Maytag’s Outlet websites, and advised on the planning and execution of their digital marketing campaigns as well as streamlining client and agency-side process by 400%. 

Later, in a Creative Director role, I owned User-Experience (UX) for a cross-platform solution that included iPhone, iPad, Mobile web and desktop UX, all under a $40M Department of Energy-funded initiative. My reach was wide here—I was accountable for agency relationship management, served as a strategic advisor for all in-store marketing and digital touch points, and became an internal champion for Whirlpool to deliver a unique, connected appliance experience. My team developed the appliance giant’s first Smart Grid Energy Visualization IP.

As Creative Director at Carter’s I was responsible for the launch of the kids’ clothing maker’s first e-commerce website. It made 2011’s Internet Retailer Top100, judged on design, technology and ease-of-use and the newly formed channel ran 300% ahead of financial targets through the first 9 months of launch. While in this role, I was accountable for agency relationship management, UX, and the associated $2M budget, and worked closely with Carter’s executive layer to champion key initiatives, problem-resolution across project management and design tracks of work, and ensure the company’s experiences were more useful and desirable than the competition’s.
