Breaking into tech

I’m on a mission to change lives, businesses and countries through cloud skills. I currently spend most of my time in Australia and New Zealand, helping AWS customers build skills and training plans.

In this role I had the pleasure of working with 3 awesome tech training companies in Australia and New Zealand. I helped them build sales and delivery capability, advise on go-to-market strategy, and amplify their reach.

I owned AWS’ ANZ channel target for revenue and number of students trained, and was responsible for building awareness of the training channel amongst AWS sales and marketing teams.

I started New Horizons' channel business in Australia from scratch,, managing both strategy and implementation.

We partnered with technology vendors, distributors, resellers and solutions providers, bundling New Horizons' education offerings with their technology solutions, to enhance the value our mutual customers generated from their technology investments.

The role had 4 primary focuses:
(a) vendor management - Microsoft, Oracle, VMware, Red Hat, Cisco and others
(b) business development - I owned the highest individual revenue target in the NH business
(c) channel management - Building partnerships with solutions providers
(d) thought leadership - I was the internal SME and mentor on all things tech, to much of the leadership team and all three sales teams.

For this role I spent my time helping NH work through a major structural and cultural change. I managed the NSW & ACT sales team directly, and had centre management responsibilities relating to operations, marketing, finance and IT.

Biggest learning curve - how to build a high performing team.

Most rewarding achievement - improvements in the way we work with our customers and partners.

I moved out of this role to run partnerships for NH across the country.

One of the most invigorating things I've ever done is to take the things I've learnt and use them to help someone else be successful. If you ever have the opportunity to lead a team, take it. I learnt so much in the 3 years I ran a sales team at NH. We had great times and tough times, and in those 3 years I developed the resilience and emotional intelligence to stand up to a challenge while staying true to who I want to be.

I moved out of this role to focus on building a new business unit (channel partnerships) from scratch.

The primary focus of this role was the growth of New Horizons' local government portfolio in Australia.

I worked with internal stakeholders in each state to consolidate our national local government relationship management approach, and to enhance our quality of service to local government clients.

I was also the relationship manager for all NSW Councils.

I believe that any organisation's most potent competitive advantage is its people. The extent to which this is the case is largely determined by the skills of those people - from leadership and customer service to technology and project management - each area playing a pivotal role in the success of the individual and the organisation.

This role was focused on creating and enhancing competitive advantage for people and organisations. I achieved this by helping to impart knowledge and change behaviour, through training.

I was accountable internally for the monthly and annual revenue of around 150 clients, and achieved consistent overall revenue growth in 5 consecutive years.

I taught piano, guitar and music theory to students of all ages for 7 years, both through my own business and in partnership with Aria Music. Music is still (and always will be!) a great passion of mine.
