About the role
A Product Designer at Anthropic works on Claude and the surfaces that make a frontier model safe and useful to rely on. You are designing for trust in a system whose reasoning users cannot inspect. At this level the bar moves from executing well to choosing what is worth executing, and being able to say why.
What you'd do
- Design for trust and safety when the user cannot inspect the system’s reasoning.
- Simplify something genuinely complex without hiding the parts that matter.
- Set direction for a product area rather than a single feature, and bring partner teams along with you.
- Raise the craft bar around you: critique, design-system contribution, and mentoring designers earlier in their career.
- Turn an ambiguous problem into work a team can start on Monday.
What they look for
- Clarity of reasoning valued above polish: you can explain why, from first principles.
- Six or more years designing shipped products.
- At least one piece of work where you can say precisely what you decided, and what you were wrong about.
- A record of influencing scope and strategy, not only execution.
- Comfort presenting to, and disagreeing with, senior stakeholders.
