Senior Product Designer

Uber

About this interview

A spoken practice interview for a Senior Product Designer role, run the way teams at Uber are known to interview. You talk out loud with an AI interviewer for four to six questions, with real follow-up probes, then get an honest read on where you stand.

How this interviewer behaves: Real-world marketplace: reward designers who think about safety, edge cases on the street, and both sides of the trip.

About the role

A Senior Product Designer at Uber works on trips and deliveries that connect riders, drivers, couriers and merchants in real time. The product leaves the screen: a design choice shows up on a street corner, in bad weather, with a person waiting. At this level you are expected to set direction for an area, bring partner teams with you, and be right often enough that people stop asking for the reasoning.

What you'd do

  • Design for both sides of a trip, where helping riders can cost drivers and the reverse.
  • Handle real-world edge cases: poor signal, safety concerns, and time pressure.
  • Set direction for a product area rather than a single feature, and bring partner teams along with you.
  • Raise the craft bar around you: critique, design-system contribution, and mentoring designers earlier in their career.
  • Turn an ambiguous problem into work a team can start on Monday.

What they look for

  • Evidence you can design for situations that happen off the screen, not only in the app.
  • Six or more years designing shipped products.
  • At least one piece of work where you can say precisely what you decided, and what you were wrong about.
  • A record of influencing scope and strategy, not only execution.
  • Comfort presenting to, and disagreeing with, senior stakeholders.

What this interview weighs most
