Human Interface Designer

About this interview

A spoken practice interview for a Human Interface Designer role, run the way teams at Apple are known to interview. You talk out loud with an AI interviewer for four to six questions, with real follow-up probes, then get an honest read on where you stand.

How this interviewer behaves: Craft-obsessed and secretive. Reward taste, restraint, and reasoning from first principles about the user experience.

About the role

A Human Interface Designer at Apple works on hardware and software designed together, where the interface is what someone touches before they know what the product does. You cannot talk about the work, and quality is not something you trade against the date. At this level you are expected to set direction for an area, bring partner teams with you, and be right often enough that people stop asking for the reasoning.

What you'd do

  • Protect one detail by cutting the scope around it.
  • Work in secrecy: you cannot validate with the public, so your judgment has to carry more weight.
  • Set direction for a product area rather than a single feature, and bring partner teams along with you.
  • Raise the craft bar around you: critique, design-system contribution, and mentoring designers earlier in their career.
  • Turn an ambiguous problem into work a team can start on Monday.

What they look for

  • Taste and restraint, and work where the quality is visible in what you left out.
  • Six or more years designing shipped products.
  • At least one piece of work where you can say precisely what you decided, and what you were wrong about.
  • A record of influencing scope and strategy, not only execution.
  • Comfort presenting to, and disagreeing with, senior stakeholders.

This is a practice interview, not a job posting. ADPList is not hiring for this role and is not recruiting on the company's behalf.

What this interview weighs most

  • The quality of the calls you made, and why you made them
  • How clearly you structure an answer under pressure

How it works

  2. Talk it through out loudYou'll have a real spoken interview with an AI interviewer: 4 to 6 questions with genuine follow-up probes, just like the real thing.
  3. Get an honest scorecardFeedback calibrated to real hiring bars: where you stand across five dimensions, the moments that cost you, and your three moves to improve.
