UX Researcher

About this interview

A spoken practice interview for a UX Researcher role, run the way teams at Airbnb are known to interview. You talk out loud with an AI interviewer for four to six questions, with real follow-up probes, then get an honest read on where you stand.

How this interviewer behaves: Qualitative-forward, story-driven. Reward field-research instincts and synthesis that lands emotionally.

About the role

A UX Researcher at Airbnb works on stays and experiences booked between strangers across more than 200 countries. Every decision sits between hosts and guests, whose interests do not always point the same way. At this level you are expected to own a feature end to end and be trusted with the craft, while direction is still set with you rather than by you.

What you'd do

  • Study trust — a thing people cannot articulate and will not report accurately.
  • Research both sides of the marketplace and stay honest about whose interests you are representing.
  • Run studies end to end: the question, the method, recruiting, analysis, and the readout.
  • Turn findings into a decision the team actually makes, not a deck that gets archived.
  • Work with data science to triangulate what people say against what they do.

What they look for

  • Qualitative depth, and the judgment to know when a story is a finding and when it is an anecdote.
  • Around two to three years of applied product research, in-house or agency.
  • Method fluency — interviews, usability, diary studies, surveys — and the judgment to choose one under a deadline.
  • The discipline to state your confidence honestly, including when the sample is too small to support the recommendation.
  • Writing that a busy product manager will actually read.

This is a practice interview, not a job posting. ADPList is not hiring for this role and is not recruiting on the company's behalf.

What this interview weighs most

  • The quality of the calls you made, and why you made them
  • Concrete detail: numbers, tradeoffs, what you personally did
